Our first podcasts just for fun: bdshow, chickens and chickens convention, pod1.mp3
What we used:
- laptop
- two really good microphones plugged into a bridge which is then plugged into the computer
- Audacity recording and editing software available at http://audacity.sourceforge.net
Note: It is possible to use any microphone. Your voice will sound far superior with good quality microphones. The specific hardware we used costs less than $300.
What we learned: With two microphones we each spoke at one, but then each microphone corresponded to a different speaker channel, so depending on what speaker channel(s) broadcast on your computer, you may hear either one of us faintly. If we did over we would each take turns talking directly into both microphones.
Tips:
-
Have rough notes of what you want to say or ask.
-
Select music to add before and after the voice portion; see resources below. Note: If it doesn't say you can use it, for free, don't!
-
If possible, record in a small room with padded or absorbent walls.

P.S. What's a podcast?
Definition from Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast
A podcast is a series of digital-media files which are distributed over the Internet using syndication feeds for playback on portable media players and computers. The term podcast, like broadcast, can refer either to the series of content itself [this is our meaning on this site] or to the method by which it is syndicated; the latter is also called podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster.
