Introduction – 5 minutes
Talk about Learning Objectives: familiarity and attitude
Pre-assessment (5 minutes)
Short questions :
1) Do you have a blog, wiki, myspace or facebook webpage?
2) Have you see one or added a comment to one?
3) Give me three words to describe your perceptions about myspace or online social networking.
State what we want: (5 minutes)
1) We want you to know what myspace and social networking spaces are.
2) Become familiar with library and personal uses of social networking
3) Perceive online social networking as legitimate and valuable for individuals and library users and libraries.
Activities: (State we are going to give you a tour and do a little hands-on and question and answer) (30 minutes)
1) Give definition: Overall it is a webpage and yes you can write on it or edit it or comment or socialize using it, but it is a webpage!
2) Tour:
a. 2 blogs
b. 2 wikis (may need to clarify that a wiki is not an encyclopedia- may say we are not showing Wikipedia because everyone knows about it.
c. 3 social networking sites
(note: one personal and one library use)
3) (Statement) Best way to familiarize yourself with these tools is to do it.
5) Q&A (15 minutes).
